Our Instructor - John C. Burton
All courses are developed and taught by John C. Burton, founder of Bartenders' School of Santa Rosa. Burton teaches what he knows from experience - more than 44 years in the profession as a bartender, bar manager, bar management consultant, a California State Licensed Bartending Instructor for over 29 years and the Educational Director of the California Chapter of the United States Bartender's Guild. He has operated his own bar service catering business 1967 to 1995.
Burton is a beverage industry columnist: his monthly features have appeared in trade publications by the American Bartenders' Association and Beverage Industry News. He is respected for his leadership role as a proponent of responsible hospitality service.
The author of POUR MAN'S FRIEND®, A Guide and Reference for Bar Personnel, Burton introduced a supplementary workbook to his book in 1994. POUR MAN'S FRIEND ® is used nationwide by bartending schools and hospitality training programs. The book took second place honors (second only to MR. BOSTON) as the most preferred bar guide in the 1994 American Bartenders' Association member survey.
Textbook and Other Training Materials
POUR MAN'S FRIEND®, A Guide and Reference for Bar Personnel serves as the textbook for all courses. The book, by instructor John Burton, is an authoritative source used by bartender schools nationwide, and selected as a textbook at several two-and four-year colleges offering hospitality courses. The text has received national recognition as one of the top three finalists in the prestigious Benjamin Franklin Awards (Cookbook Category) in 1990.
A supplementary workbook, published in 1994, is used as a companion to the text in the Full-Service Bartender Course.
A comprehensive library of videotapes on pertinent trade topics is used to aid the students' understanding of the bartending and cocktail service professions.
